Young Composers Workshop
an engine for the music of tomorrow
The Young Composers Workshop admits pre-college and undergraduate composition students annually via application. Each participant receives lessons, lectures and mentorship from the faculty and Festival artists.
Participants will compose a new chamber work. The piece will be workshopped and professionally recorded by Sunset ChamberFest’s renowned performers.
Curriculum
All admitted young composers receive:
Two 1-hour private composition lessons before the festival
One 30-minute workshop rehearsal of student’s piece as well as the opportunity to watch other rehearsals
One 60-minute rehearsal session with performing artists after initial workshop
A professional recording of student’s piece
Discussion with festival performing artists on extended techniques, career development, and approaches to musicianship
Lectures from widely-acclaimed composition faculty
Recognition of participation in all festival performances
Tuition and Fees
The cost of attending the Young Composers Workshop in 2022 is $1000.
Two Need-Based Full-Scholarships are available for admitted students. To qualify, the student must:
Currently be enrolled in a high school at time of application
Qualify for the free or reduced price lunch program
Submit a Need-Based Financial-Aid Form with their general application.
