Program Requirements, Costs and Dates

Eligibility: Composers between the ages of 14–22

  • You must be currently in a high school, college undergraduate, or equivalent schooling

  • Composers outside the age range will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • You must be residing in the United States.

  • It is preferable that you attend all activities in-person during the Workshop: June 10–13, 2023. Sunset Chamberfest will make all efforts possible to accommodate participants on Zoom if they are unable to attend in-person.

Application Fee: $53.45

  • This includes a $3.45 transaction fee to cover our new online application process.

  • Successful applicants will have $50 credited towards their tuition cost.

Workshop Cost: $900

  • Participants will pay at most $850 after their application fee credit.

This year’s application includes an application process for need-based financial aid. Admissions to YCW is need-blind. Please visit the Financial Aid page for details.

Application Materials

There are two parts to the application. First, complete the applicant information fields in the application form and pay the application fee. Then, you will receive a link via email to a second form where you can upload CV, bio, and financial aid application files.

Part 1: Applicant Info and Application Fee

  • Full Name

  • Primary Instrument

  • Website (if you have)

  • Name of Primary Composition Teacher/Mentor

  • Current School

  • Indicate whether you intend to apply for need-based financial aid.

  • Application fee of $50 (credited towards tuition for successful applicants)

Part 2: Documents for Upload (link sent to you via email within 24 hours)

  • A CV or Resume detailing your past educational and compositional history, including schools, summer programs, works list, awards, composition teacher history, etc.

    • Please name your CV: LASTNAME_CV.pdf (Use first initial if clarification needed)

  • A 150-word biography, written in third-person for a program.

    • Please name your biography: LASTNAME_BIO.pdf

  • 1 or 2 sample scores of completed works with recordings (MIDI accepted)

    • Please name your scores: LASTNAME_TITLE.pdf

    • Please name your recordings: LASTNAME_TITLE.mp3

  • Financial Aid Documents:

    • Your parents’ 2022 Form 1040 Tax Return

    • Your 2022 Form 1040 Tax Return (if you have)

    • Your parents’ monthly cash flow statement (download here)

    • Any documentation verifying enrollment in the SNAP or TANF programs

    • In addition, if you are a high school student, you may also any of submit the following documents:

      • A fee waiver form for any standardized testing (College Board, SAT, NACAC) signed by a high school guidance counselor

      • A letter on school stationery from a college/guidance counselor stating you qualify for the free lunch program

    • In addition, if you are a college student, you may also submit the financial aid letter from your college for the 2022-23 academic year.
