Joseph Karz, Young Composer
Joseph Karz found his passion for composition in middle school, while attending Interlochen Arts Camp for piano. As a sophomore at Brentwood School, he became a fellow in the LA Philharmonic Nancy and Barry Sanders Composer Fellowship Program, where he studies with Sarah Gibson, Thomas Kotcheff, and Andrew Norman. The following summer, Joey studied composition at Boston University Tanglewood Institute. He recently participated in an inspiring virtual week with YoungArts as a 2021 winner in classical music, and is nominated for the United States Presidential Scholar in the Arts Award. Above all, Joey is determined to develop a unique sound that captivates a wide variety of audiences.
