This festival is open to students ages 14-22 all around the country!

In Person/Remote Hybrid: After the success of our 2021 workshop, we decided to once again use a combination of in-person and remote learning. For any who are able to participate in-person, workshop activities will have that option, however each activity will also be accompanied by a remote component so that students can zoom in from anywhere. The festival is open to any students ages 14-22 (by June 19) who wish to participate both in person and remotely.

Workshop summary:
Fifteen to twenty students, ages 14 to 22, will participate in the 2022 Sunset ChamberFest Young Composers Workshop. Each participating student will be given the opportunity to compose a new work for instruments such as violin, viola, cello, piano, flute, clarinet, and harp which will be workshopped and professionally recorded by Sunset ChamberFest's performing artists. Each student will receive two private lessons from one of the composition faculty prior to the first workshop. In addition to the workshop, students will be recognized at the series concerts on June 17th, 18th and 19th. At least one piece from last year’s workshop will be premiered at these concerts and a piece from the 2022 workshop will be chosen to be premiered the following season. All participants and families will be admitted free of charge to all events. Students are required to attend all workshop events, including the festival concerts, unless granted prior approval.

Workshop Success:
Students who participated in the Young Composers Workshop have used their Sunset ChamberFest recordings in successful applications to colleges, conservatories, competitions, and music festivals. Our alumni have attended schools such as Juilliard, Curtis, Harvard, Yale, USC, and UCLA and music festivals such as Tanglewood and Yellow Barn.

Workshop Tuition:
The tuition for the 2022 SCF Young Composers Workshop is  $1000.

Two need-based full-scholarships will be provided to two high school students. Please submit required materials if you qualify.
